    I have a 7900XTX and performance under Linux has been at least on par with Windows, sometimes better (though not by much).

    I'm not GP but I'd love to see frame gen and stuff like anti-lag and upscaling integrated into amdgpu with some sort of official way of setting it (though looking at Adrenaline it might actually be best if it's left up to the community to create the GUIs).

  • How do I underclock my 7800 xt on arch linux?

    Basically the 7800 xt has this bug where I need to lower the core clock of -80mhz to avoid it crashing with 2 different hdmi/vga monitors or something. On windows no problems, but what about arch linux? How do I lower it? Looks like corectrl doesn´t support 7000 series gpus (from what I understood), please help yall!

    I just wish we had an equivalent of AMD Software on Linux, so I could mess around with the settings more.

    For example, I like to limit the GPU to 50-75% of it's total power for ambient heat/cooling reasons, or UPS/PSU/electricity bill reasons when specific games make it hard to cap framerates.

    With AMD Software on Windows, it's no big deal. On Linux, the best I found was CoreCtrl: https://gitlab.com/corectrl/corectrl

    If you set it to POWER_SAVING instead of 3D_FULL_SCREEN, it uses the highest boost clock a lot less. Or if you use something like corectrl's application profiles (maybe the Windows vendor driver control panel has them?), you can selectively disable boost clock states in specific games.

    I'm bias toward Asus motherboards. I have an "Asus TUF GAMING B550-PLUS WIFI II" and a "Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (WI-FI) ATX". Both boards have a fan control feature in the BIOS/EFI.     Over the last few years, Nvidia's Management Library has seen quite a bit of work, with a lot of useful functionality that works regardless of your display protocol. You can see the reference docs here or take a look at the most up-to-date header for a more complete function list from the nvidia-settings source. However, C isn't a very friendly language for newbies, and it's a bit cumbersome for small scripts, so we'll be looking at a python wrapper instead.

    I didn't install any gpu drivers manually. At first I left both distros at default, then on Ubuntu I installed the latest version of the NVIDIA drivers that appeared for me(515.76) through the CLI, using apt search nvidia-driver. Before installing through the CLI, I went to "Software and Updates" and it didn't say that there was any proprietary driver in use, like it does for some people. It said something along the lines of "manually installed driver" and all of the checkboxes were grayed out. Now, after restarting the system and having the latest driver installed, I'm receiving the following message during the booting process: "NVRM: The NVIDIA Geforce GTX 760 GPU installed in this system is supported through the NVIDIA 470.xx Legacy drivers. Please visit https://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html for more information. The 515.76 NVIDIA driver will ignore this GPU. Continuing probe..." I visited the website and apparently the legacy drivers are the correct ones for my gpu model. However, the message keeps showing up over and over on the screen and the system won't boot, so i don't know how to proceed yet.

    Secondly, Nvidia partially implemented the Graphics/Memory VF offset functions. I say partially because the memory offset is the only one that works at all, the memory offset is partially bugged, and it's only supported on Linux for some reason. It turns out that they have nothing to do with voltage like I thought but are instead a cross-platform way to overclock an Nvidia GPU. Or, at least, that is the intent. If Nvidia ever implements it on Windows, Envious FX will allow you to overclock(or underclock) your GPU if supported.
