and if you want better video quality you could try to use https://github.com/uobikiemukot/yaft to allow sixel support but i could never get any audio when using yaft

That's sixel based, so it isn't tty compatible (unless one compiles yaft from source, which is so esoteric that it isn't even packaged in Debian).
