  • Bit shifting blew my mind

It doesn't come up very often. There is an id generation library I use github.com/bwmarrin/snowflake that makes pretty good use of bit shifting. Each id is split into 3 parts, a timestamp, a node id, and a sequence number. The idea is that each server has a node id. Each node can make 4096 ids every millisecond for about 70 years. It works by doing the following

  • Looking for some feedback on ingesting data into Snowflake via Go using Benthos
    3 projects | /r/snowflake | 9 Mar 2022
The gosnowflake client library has some limitations related to binding parameters for bulk insert queries, so I ended up going down the PUT query + Snowpipe call route to implement this output in Benthos. I'm curious if anyone would find it useful to have an additional snowflake_insert output which does work in certain cases, as described in the GitHub issue I linked above.
