Ask HN: Any good open source video conferencing options?
Came across [Jitsi](https://github.com/jitsi/jitsi-meet-electron/releases/tag/v2023.7.2) and [BigBlueButton](https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton), does anyone have experience of running these or others in production?

How does this sub feel about remote work?
Middle managers not adapting. When my old job when remote for Covid, my manager would hold telecons, despite having access to videoconference software with the capability to document and screen share (IT setup BigBlueButton ). He would talk to slides we couldn't see, and we were lucky if he sent them out in email before hand.

Any open source project with video call + screen share + remote access features similar to Zoom or Team Viewer?
BBB team has not implemented this feature yet I suppose. https://github.com/bigbluebutton/bigbluebutton/issues/1428

IMPORTANT: It looks like the schools are turning into a warzone and too dangerous for children. People are hoping to shift education online (avoiding the regime platforms). We are looking for something like a persian Khan Academy. If you know any platforms or ideas about this please comment here.

Web based Video/audio chat solution with high quality single presenter video?
I haven't used it to stream movies, but I use BigBlueButton fairly regularly for video/voice calls

Germany Forces a Microsoft 365 Ban Due to Privacy Concerns
Big Blue Button (https://bigbluebutton.org) is one. We actually used it at work for meetings but it seems they have since pivoted to be for more virtual classroom.
I agree though, even that would need decent IT talent to setup and maintain.

GitHub Discussions can also be a great place for support as long as these are regularly monitored. Another option along the same lines is Discourse and the Open Source Matrix which is used by quite a few Open Source and community-based projects.

Tangential: the article notes that Telegram is an “encrypted messaging app”. While this is technically true, it's worth keeping in mind that it's not end-to-end encrypted, so it's less secure in that regard than, say, Signal or even WhatsApp. Telegram does have opt-in end-to-end encrypted one-on-one chats, but those are very inconvenient to use.
For a properly encrypted chat app, including group chats (opt-in), try Matrix instead: https://matrix.org/

Launching Default End-to-End Encryption on Messenger
I'd love something like the Matrix [0] data model (JSON messages aggregated in an eventually-consistent chatroom CRDT) transmitted over something like simplex for metadata resistance.

Trillian mod here. There's this new thing called Beeper, works on matrix.org. It's not as the good old times, but I'm currently using whatsapp, FB messenger, discord, telegram, signal, imessage and a few more. It's not Cerulean experience, but it's... slowly improving.

Connect to Element One in Element X?
I'm trying to change my account provider from "matrix.org" to whatever Element One needs, and for the life of me I just don't understand what values I have to put where to be able to log in. I tried `element.io`, which takes me to sso.element.io but this doesn't seem like the right thing (no credentials work as I expect.
