What irony! Pseudonymous crypto millionaire 0xfoobar who was first to popularize formerly known Classic V1 Punks with a (safe) wrapper and market on OpenSea (pulling in a 2.5% commisson on every trade for 0xfoobar) got "rug pulled" - that is - a new crypto bros band lead / headed by the pseudonymous hemba rebranded "the old or V1" wrapper for V1 punks and are now pushing the new "official" and V2 wrapper for V1 punks and with a new zero-fee V1 cryptopunk market (hello, wash trading and self-dealing to push up prices - surprise, surprise - yes, new record V1 sales!).

starting with the write-up / wiki pages by the V1 Punk Founders (@Hemba et al) I put togther a first (quick) draft and all-in-one page of the History of the Punk V1 Saga.

The idea is to encourage you to download the "original" :-) and initally to save disk space (but since the image is a 8-bit color indexed bitmap it's a managable size about ~800k). You can find another copy at awesome-cryptopunks-bubble/i/punks.png. (~800k)

I am trying to inscribe my punk. Can you tell me how to download the original image that is on-chain? https://github.com/larvalabs/cryptopunks/blob/master/punks.png gives me the collection image but not individual ones.

Regarding your point that the object you own might not be consistent: because of the cost relative of storing data on a blockchain, the actual digital thing you own isn't stored on the blockchain, but a hash of that file (e.g. [1]). Unless hashing is broken, this is cryptographic proof that the object does remain consistent.

Let's applaud the CryptoPunks - Matt Hall and John Watkinson - for publishing an all-in-one (free) composite image of all 10 000 punks on github - see github.com/larvalabs/cryptopunks/punks.png (~ 800k) - plus on explaining that the images are not "on-chain", that is, stored itself on the blockchain.

They’re stored on chain now, as a fun side project. Check the metadata for the cryptopunks tho. The image is on git https://github.com/larvalabs/cryptopunks/blob/master/punks.png

Why not share the attributes dataset on GitHub let's say in a comma-separated values (csv) format? Or the new CryptoPunksData contract source along with some documentation? The last update /change on the official larvalabs/cryptopunks repo is Dec 2017!

The original 10 000 CryptoPunks pixel art collections by Larva Labs (Matt Hall and John Watkinson) shares the blockchain (ethereum) contract code, see larvalabs/cryptopunks but NOT the pixel art or the generation machinery or attributes / traits and so on.
