Who is behind Punks V1 or Punks V3? Crypto Bros Genius or Fraudster? (Insider) Tips Welcome
From the cryptopunks github readme:

It is difficult for the average person to conceive of how useless NFTs are
3. your ownership does not prevent anyone from copying the file itself for their own uses.
Regarding your point that the object you own might not be consistent: because of the cost relative of storing data on a blockchain, the actual digital thing you own isn't stored on the blockchain, but a hash of that file (e.g. [1]). Unless hashing is broken, this is cryptographic proof that the object does remain consistent.

Punk Collection Case Study - From CryptoPunks (Anno 2017) to BladeRunnerPunks (Anno 2021/12) - From Art Experiment to Cash Grab & Rug Pull Get-Rick-Quick Exit - What's Your Take?
Let's applaud the CryptoPunks - Matt Hall and John Watkinson - for publishing an all-in-one (free) composite image of all 10 000 punks on github - see github.com/larvalabs/cryptopunks/punks.png (~ 800k) - plus on explaining that the images are not "on-chain", that is, stored itself on the blockchain.

Ubisoft de-lists overwhelmingly disliked NFT announcement video
They’re stored on chain now, as a fun side project. Check the metadata for the cryptopunks tho. The image is on git https://github.com/larvalabs/cryptopunks/blob/master/punks.png

Q: When I run the script "punk tile 0 2890 8219" it results in error "no such file or directory rb_sysopen -./punks.png"
If you want to download the "official" copy go to the https://github.com/larvalabs/cryptopunks/blob/master/punks.png page and click on the Download-Button in the right corner) that should show the image in the browser.

Why NFTs are worthless, 98% of NFTs in 2021 will be bad investment. "It's only a matter of time before NFT artworks will lose their allure to all but a niche group of enthusiasts."
Yep... Here is all 10,000 cryptopunks... absolutely free... no strings attached... enjoy!

LarvaLabs News - Original Cryptopunks are now fully on chain! The images and attributes are now stored in the CryptopunksData contract on Ethereum @ Transaction Fee Gas Cost 0.08749 ETH (~$261.30) - What's Your Take?
Why not share the attributes dataset on GitHub let's say in a comma-separated values (csv) format? Or the new CryptoPunksData contract source along with some documentation? The last update /change on the official larvalabs/cryptopunks repo is Dec 2017!

Inside Crypto Collectibles - How To Algorithmically Generate 1000s of Pixel Art Images - Learn from Substra Punks, Bit Birds, Boring Bananas & Friends
The original 10 000 CryptoPunks pixel art collections by Larva Labs (Matt Hall and John Watkinson) shares the blockchain (ethereum) contract code, see larvalabs/cryptopunks but NOT the pixel art or the generation machinery or attributes / traits and so on.

Ethereum Foundation removes their canary
Even more relevant would be the Ethereum Improvement Proposal repo (where people submit proposals to change the spec):
https://github.com/ethereum/EIPs
Or the go-ethereum execution client (the most popular execution client):

you may as well just look at the Ethereum reference implementation: https://github.com/ethereum/go-ethereum
-
Daily General Discussion - June 18, 2023
Interestingly, this was mitigated in Geth v1.11.4 this March, so should no longer be a concern on Ethereum, though the authors note that forks e.g. BSC and ETC may still be vulnerable.
