autopunch VS shadcn/ui

These days your can probably just use https://autopunch.delthas.fr/ and be done with it.

I think it's because you have to forward the port that you're hosting on? And on college wifi, that's unlikely to happen. I haven't tried it myself, but hisouten players have been using autopunch which supposedly lets you play P2P games without port forwarding. It's worth a shot. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid I don't have any other advice.

You don't actually need port forwarding. You can use Autopunch to be able to host and connect hosts who also use Autopunch.

Shadcn/ui: I've never tried it before but have always wanted to switch from MaterialUI

Honestly the ergonomics of heavily customizable generic component libraries aren't great. Copy and pasting a simple component to make the specific customizations you want helps reduce JS ecosystem churn and dependency pain. Popularity of libraries like shadcn/ui [1] are good acknowledgements of that.
