For https://github.com/fynelabs/selfupdate, it is targeting self updating binary running under an identity that allow them to tillage themselves. There is no version check, but there is a signature check. It has a tool provided to automatically sign and upload a binary to a s3 bucket which can easily be configured to serve your binary.

Self Updating Binary
You can check out https://github.com/fynelabs/selfupdate . It does not need any background services or what not. Just integrate in your application in maybe 10 lines. We do maintain it and it runs on Linux, windows and macos. It require an ed25519 and a tool is provided to generate the signature. Put those file on a http server somewhere and you're done.
