Really loving my new f37 webdev setup..
It's the elementary layout of ArcMenu - https://gitlab.com/arcmenu/ArcMenu
- What happened to Arc menu?

is it a good idea to go with debian?
I know how you feel about kde. Gnome is definitely more robust in that way. Gnome can be customized quite a bit via extensions and themes. Arc menu is the first that comes to my mind that makes it look like cinnamon/windows. For some reason there isn't much picturez but it has many different layouts for start menu https://gitlab.com/arcmenu/ArcMenu

First impressions of desktop and Nautilus in Ubuntu 22.04
There still isn't an application menu. In my opinion this is a great tool to introduce new users to what's available, as well as a reminder for seasoned users. An easy solution would have been to integrate the awesome Arc Menu. I know, I know "You can just install it yourself" but sometimes Gnome shell extensions break, right? If it was integrated into Ubuntu 22.04, not so much.

Ask HN: What's your Linux window manager and/or desktop environment?
I'm running Arch Linux with GNOME on Wayland. It's mostly perfect for me out-of-the-box, however I have customized it to my liking with the help of a few extensions:

What changes do you want to see in your operating system Start Menu
With that said: I am myself into unix ricing (i.e., the art of creating customization and visual improvements to one's desktop). I find it interesting to challenge my way of working, how to efficiently and elegantly find applications and options. This opens my thinking to new ways of interaction with my machine. If you seek inspiration in this domain, you should visit /r/unixporn. I would also recommend looking at something like ArcMenu who provides several Start Menu options.

After I updated apps disappeared. It's been 4 days since this happened. What do I do?
there's a couple of unmaintained arc menu projects but this is the current one that is still getting updates https://gitlab.com/arcmenu/ArcMenu

Having issues getting make to work at all
I'm trying to build ArcMenu from source using their guide. I chose the default master branch. When I run 'make install' (also tried 'make' and 'make -f Makefile'), I get the following error:

Windows 11 Leak Megathread
I wonder if the Recommended section in the new like Elementary OS inspired Start Menu has an option to be turned off ? Off course i don't expect the level of customization i get from ArcMenu but common sense options should be available.

Is this an efficient way to do system monitoring?
Welcome to AW! A few points that may come in handy. * Read awesome-git API documentation first. There are a lot of points about it. * Do not use io.popen https://awesomewm.org/apidoc/libraries/awful.spawn.html * Encapsulate business logic to user custom library and re-use code for your widgets. Remove it from rc.lua. * You can use producer-consumer pattern to create signals and add graphical widget listeners to it. https://github.com/raven2cz/awesomewm-config/blob/master/fishlive/status/archupdates.lua https://github.com/raven2cz/awesomewm-config/blob/master/themes/multicolor/theme.lua * nvidia: nvidia-smi --query-gpu=temperature.gpu --format=csv,noheader,nounits * Other basics mem, net, etc. looks here, sometimes is better to use library: https://github.com/lcpz/lain/tree/master/widget * optional: try to divide GUI graphical components (theme parts, and your custom libs) and business logic layer (rc.lua). After a few months, you won't know why and where you implemented it, and you need to keep it in order. Especially the initialization order of the components. Lua requires a strictly sequential order.

How to get battery notification and change wibox theme background in awesome wm
Probably you're using some widgets made by someone else. I see you have a require "lain" in your rc so it's safe to assume you're using lain's widgets, found here: https://github.com/lcpz/lain I'm not familiar with them and currently I am not at the PC but in this file in the repo: https://github.com/lcpz/lain/blob/master/widget/bat.lua You can find this piece of code: bat_notification_critical_preset = { title = "Battery exhausted", text = "Shutdown imminent", timeout = 15, fg = "#000000", bg = "#FFFFFF" } Check out how it works and maybe add your own presets. Good luck.
