  • Better way to nominate characters?

Hadn't actually considered bulk nominate, but some JSON/CSV situation is simple enough I could make that happen. I'll try and work on that between keeping a newborn alive. [ Tracking ticket ]

I think this is somewhere in the realm of the loser's bracket idea that's been around forever. I'm guessing a third place match would be similar, but smaller in scope. Honestly, not super likely to happen any time soon unless somebody would like to step up and work on it :|
  • How come adjusted votes are greater than actual votes?
    1 project | /r/AnimeBracket | 22 May 2023
Yeah, I'm the guy. Honestly at this point, there might not even be a need for a weighting system. That was put in place before anybody really knew about brackets and we had lots of new folks voting everyday. Custom weights would definitely be the answer. Setting a fixed 80/20 might work for you, but not somebody else. I can't make any guarantees about addressing this in the near future (don't have nearly as much time/energy as when I originally wrote all this), but I've logged the idea for future reference.

How will it work? I will use the poll system that is already integrated in the subreddit. I will put all the contestants in the brackets, linking each of their work in the comments. In the case of more than 6 entries, we will be using animebracket.com. They will be put against each other, and every day the one with the lowest of votes will get eliminated until only one remains. Nothing else will change.

The most important thing I start on is the "Score by ****" sheet. Here I will take the seeds as determined by AnimeBracket and assign each seed a point value. Initial point values are determined one of four ways.

/r/Anime has a best girl contest on https://animebracket.com/, something similar for the huge cast of TWI characters (but smaller) would be fun if we had them split into categories. I've always wondered which Goblin would come out on top of an everyone's favourite Goblin poll, which non-main character Earther is liked the most or if Zelkyr is a worse dad than Garen and I think a tournament is more exciting that a straight up poll especially given the number of characters that might qualify.

I post on another sub that uses a site called Anime Bracket to run tournaments like these, which lets people vote anonymously but authenticated via their Reddit accounts. (By default it requires accounts be at least a month old, though this can be edited when creating a bracket.)

Fast forward a little and CSS animation and 3D transforms were on my radar. In fact, 3D CSS and animation were some of the first things I spent time playing with. One thing I started with was creating a collection of loading spinners. If I had a few moments, I’d mess about with different properties and see what I could make while adding them to a file all the time. Later, I’d turn it all into a GitHub project.
