You can read more about it here, but the short version is: as long as any given two (or more) instances are federated, users from one can post and visit communities on another and vice versa.

Lemmy.world grew by about 40% on the first day of reddit migration
Don't bother fretting about federation or any of the complexity of Lemmy for starters. The advantage of starting on a "big" instance is that a lot of that is taken care of for you. If / When you decide you want more detail, check out this guide

That's great news! I used this source to teach me how to create an account and a community. I chose lemmy.world (there are many different instances of Lemmy -- don't ask but the information is available as to what that means) as it seems to be a good overall one.

I tried Lemmy over the last weeks but was disappointed about the available mobile apps. Not anymore. Today I found the Liftoff app

- Is anyone forking out Infinity made for Lemmy or any Infinity similar app for Lemmy?

Reddit is going to remove mods of private communities unless they reopen — ‘This is a courtesy notice to let you know that you will lose moderator status in the community by end of week.’
There's also quite a few Lemmy clients/apps, I'm currently using liftoff

Can't get a login to work
So, I signed up to GitHub (never heard of it before today) and got redirected to the Google Play store for an app called Liftoff. It seems to work, I was able to log into my account. I've added a couple meme pages to follow, but I still need to familiarize myself with it
