Rankings Plugin?
You can use Advanced Tables Plugin. Very useful for formating, sorting, and other utilities for tables on markdown format: https://github.com/tgrosinger/advanced-tables-obsidian

Recently migrated from Notion to Obsidian
Before they breathed new life into that project I used the following to better manage tables: - https://github.com/tgrosinger/advanced-tables-obsidian - https://github.com/ganesshkumar/obsidian-excel-to-markdown-table

Show HN: Sheet Markup – add spreadsheets to a Markdown document
I use advanced tables[0] and Excel to markdown tables[1] plugins - they make working with tables in Obsidian a bit easier.
That said, I think tables are markdown's Achilles heel - anything involving multi-line content starts to make things complicated.

What are some must have plugins for beginners with Obsidian
I really like make.md for its powerful and simplified design. Advanced Tables and Excel to markdown table are great if you are working with tables a lot and also "smaller" plugins like paste url into selection and tag wragler really can make your life easier.

Tables In Obsidian
I can recommend https://github.com/tgrosinger/advanced-tables-obsidian, makes dealing with tables much easier.

What do you guys think about the way Obsidian handles tables? I spent 20 mins trying to figure out why these last two rows wouldn't render, but it looked fine in Typora.
As usual you've probably got to rely on plugins. [Table Enhancer](https://github.com/Stardusten/ob-table-enhancer) isn't released yet, but it's very usable. I used to use [Advanced Tables](https://github.com/tgrosinger/advanced-tables-obsidian) but Table Enhancer is better, so I only use it to auto-format the markdown now.

Writing down what I do – in Obsidian
There are plugins like improved tables ( https://github.com/tgrosinger/advanced-tables-obsidian ) which make markdown tables quicker to write up.

Show HN: A Python-based static site generator using Jinja templates
I'll slightly modify your argument; because Pure HTML does suck:
Why don't people make static sites with a simple "Markdown-or-Similar to HTML" converter, CSS, and vanilla JS...etc?
(This is what I do, btw -- http://zim-wiki.org + a template)

And I just tweaked the CSS and added a bit of logic to included the possibility of one image per slide; as well as editing slides not with raw HTML but with https://zim-wiki.org (because that's what I'm really used to, I'm sure any Markdown thing would work just as well).

The rise and fall of the standard user interface
Absolutely; recently I realize I wish I'd never learned vim. I use too many other programs that are at least CUA-ish ( http://zim-wiki.org is the most important app I use ) and now I kind of want out. I haven't yet tried Modeless Vim, but that looks like my next experiment.

Writing HTML in HTML
It is so hard not to feel REALLY SMUG reading stuff like this, as someone who has run my own website as the working primary source for my college instruction for the past 15 years or so using https://zim-wiki.org. (before Markdown was much of a thing!)
It's borderline bizarre to have watched this method of doing things kind of die out, and then also come back in the form of "static site generators" -- which, frankly, are still way clunkier than this.
Write in Zim, export to html, rsync to site. Easy.
