Linux GPO on Windows AD
Only suggestions I have would be to check the docs here: https://github.com/ubuntu/adsys/wiki/04.-Using-GPO

Ubuntu 21.04 is here
Looking at https://github.com/ubuntu/adsys (linked below by /u/SadFaceSmith it looks like they are providing an ADMX template for Ubuntu that you configure along side your windows GPO stuff. They aren't trying to parse the existing windows focused GPO stuff at all.

Ubuntu 21.04 released today, Active Directory Integration built in.
I am also trying to figure it out now. While creating the local user at installation there is a checkbox to join a domain, followed by some light configuration. I did that and the device is now showing up on my domain controller, but I am not able to log into the Ubuntu device with domain user accounts. The release notes say that there is a command adsysctl included by default, but I found I needed to install adsys myself, but I didn't get much further with it. I also saw that I was able to add domain accounts with the Users GUI once signed in with the local account, but I was not able to sign in with the account even after adding it here.

Did they? I know of https://github.com/google/nearby, but I don't think it's enough to implement. I could be wrong but...

What's everyone working on this week (29/2022)?
You may want to check this project out: https://github.com/google/nearby. It is in C++, though. It is a medium agnostic socket over bt and wifi. It seems similar to what you are trying to do.

Nearby Shares Comes to ChromeOS - Share with Android
No plans for Linux right now. You're right that parts of the port would be easier for Linux than Windows. We have a /platform folder (https://github.com/google/nearby-connections/tree/master/cpp/platform/impl) that has abstractions for concepts like 'file', 'lock', and 'bluetooth_classic'. We're having to rewrite a lot of the core files ('file', 'lock', 'thread') for Windows while we could have reused what we already have if we were targeting Linux/MacOS. But rewriting the radio classes ('bluetooth_classic', 'wifi_lan', 'ble') would have had to happen regardless.
