Easily the best aspect of Transmission is the fact that it can run as a daemon, accepting commands from anyone within network reach who has the right credentials. I use it as part of the books [1] tool (a CLI/TUI/GUI Library Genesis interface) through a helper script [2] to enable torrent download of individual publications from libgen torrents. This helper script provides commands like tm-ls (list active torrents), tm-add (add a torrent to the daemon) and tm-add-selective (get a single file or set of files from a torrent) provide a convenient interface for those who live on the command line and/or want to use Transmission from within other tools.

The ´Books' tool [1] has been doing the same for a long time as well, can be used anywhere where Bash runs and - given its shell-based nature - is eminently hackable. It comes with a CLI (named 'books'), TUI ('nbook' and 'nfiction') and GUI ('xbook' and 'xfiction') and supports both IPFS, Bittorrent as well as direct download. It can search on all fields.
