I have a Western Digital My Cloud EX2 OS 5 Storage device. It's very locked down and tends to reset most configs etc upon installation, I presume it is using some sort of custom build. I was successfully able to install docker using the following and it persists after a reboot https://github.com/WDCommunity/wdpksrc/releases/tag/docker-v20.10.14

What are my options with a WD My Cloud Ex2 Ultra ?
The EX2 does offer a number of built-in apps, though not NextCloud. It is possible with a little effort to install some Apps, for example I have SyncThing running well. This GitHub page has a NextCloud instance you could take a look at (this is where I got SyncThing from). Hope it helps.
