BlackStartx's Gesture Manager is a must for testing your avatar. It recently appeared in the VCC, I noticed.

Lyuma's AV3 emulator also helps a lot. It's very similar to Gesture Manager.

Is there anyway to upload my avatar and test to make sure it actually works without this screen getting in the way?
Unity package called AV3Emulator that allows avatar testing without uploading. That plugin saved me a LOT of time.

Disable lip sync while doing gestures
If you use Lyuma’s Av3 Emulator you can test that they are working correctly in unity.

Spending hours in blender, then Unity. Only to discover disastrous model issues when you finally load it into VR.
I highly recommend Av3Emulator, let's you somewhat test avatars in Unity. It's not always 100% but it works pretty well 99% of the time when I'm testing stuff with my avatars. Saves me so much time.
