Outsider here - Why are shops a thing? Surely this centralised approach to distribution isn't sustainable?
Depends on what software your NAS runs. I'm running windows server on mine so FTP is handled by IIS. If you want to set up your own shop with new games/updates/dlc section instead of browsing directories with FTP, you can use Tinfoil Web Server here: https://github.com/Myster-Tee/TinfoilWebServer

I also appreciate that DLC & update availability is on the roadmap. That would make it replace Switch Library Manager for my purposes.

You also need to rename the nsp file properly, you can use switch library manager: https://github.com/giwty/switch-library-manager

How to keep track of Updates & DLCs as they are released?
I use https://github.com/giwty/switch-library-manager. It's not automated, but can scan your library and let you know what DLC and updates you're missing.

switch-library-manager will optionally do this if you run it with prod.keys present. The default behavior does not rename or organize but works great once enabled.
