Deduplication
I could make my Synology think the HDDs are SSDs but then I really wouldn't trust it deduplicating my data. I've had deduplication working on my DS1821+ on an NVMe volume.

DS1823xs+ showing status as 'At risk'
If they have SATA SSD drives and want to run data deduplication they'd need to run the script without the -f. I have another script that enables data deduplication.
-
Is there an app for my concept?
I did write a script to enable btrfs data deduplication on other models, and without Synology drives. https://github.com/007revad/Synology_enable_Deduplication

Synology HDD db v1.2.30 - Now disables non-Synology Memory notifications
There is also Synology_enable_Deduplication that enables data deduplication for non-Synology SSDs and unsupported NAS models.

Synology M2 volume v1.2.9 - A script to create a volume on any M.2 drives - Now with RAID 5
I actually now know where the "switch" is to allow DSM to create storage pools and volumes with non-Synology M.2 drives. I just now put a teaser on github: https://github.com/007revad/Synology_M2_volume_enable

I've put up a teaser showing that it can be done. https://github.com/007revad/Synology_M2_volume_enable
