I'm interested in Google summer of code event but missed it last year. I want to attend the event this year and notice that Haskell.org was one of the organizations. It sounds really exciting, I hope Haskell.org will participate in GSoC this year as well. But I have little experience with Haskell, I'm worried about how to write an expressive proposal when I don't even know which projects they will focus on. Can anyone give me so resources or suggestions about the following question?

I also encourage you to look into Google Summer of Code (GSoC).

OSS have benefited from Google Summer of Code, Google has released many fundamental libraries as OSS such as Guava for Java, Abseil for C++, etc. Many have criticized that Google never made money of a lot of its innovations, and instead had others build their own based on Google's shared information (Hadoop, and later all nosql databases, for a quick example; Docker came to be from open source innovations that Google put into Linux for their own container system). Even as Google has begun monetizing, they still open source core parts of their products (such as Kubernetes) for their benefit.

They actually do something like that. It's called Summer of Code.

Participate in Open Source Programs like GSOC(Google Summer Of Code) ,Digital Ocean Hacktoberfest, MLH Fellowship , GSSOC(I was part of it) and many more.

There couldn't be a better start for your open-source journey than HacktoberFest. It's an annual open-source event where project maintainers await your contributions, and they prepare their projects to accept new contributors.

I would start at First Timers Only and see what they have that you can do. Every October there is Hacktober, and they have a good page for getting started in Open Source.

Just off the top of my head, hacktoberfest is a thing every October that lists how and where to get into open source. https://hacktoberfest.digitalocean.com/

Snek Me and about 70 new programmers made this for Hacktoberfest. You should think about doing Hacktoberfest in October. They'll send you some free stickers and a T-Shirt and it will look good on your resume.

It's late fall 2020 and Hacktoberfest came along. I looked at the website and something caught my attention.

Hacktoberfest is a month-long event happening every October, in which we have to make four or more valid pull requests to public Github repositories. When we accomplish that, we will be eligible to get a limited edition Hacktoberfest T-shirt or we can choose to donate a tree.

While in college, I had heard about this amazing month long celebration for open-source called hacktoberfest where if you make a certain number of contributions to any open-source repository(ies) and your changes are accepted (via pull-requests), you could get swags like T-shirts, stickers and other things.
