Honestly I originally looked at the instructions and it seemed very confusing, but it's not as bad as it seems. This GitHub instruction set is a good step by step.

pray for me, because I am jumping headfirst into a modded Stardew Valley. the main ones are Stardew Valley Expanded and Ridgeside Village, but I've got some other minor ones, like one that fucks with the time (I made the day last longer), two things to make the Greenhouse even better (can install sprinklers and make it bigger), a better cellar, more backpack upgrades, a cooking and luck skill, a way to prestige the skills and make it so I can have all professions, and a way to harvest shit with scythes .

From the errors you're providing, it sounds like it's not loading the Required dependency mods (if you go to the Stardew Valley Expanded page and expand the "Required" accordion, you can see them all). So if you have then, they're either in the wrong directory, or you're still missing some. At least with the Vortex client, you don't have to manage your own mod directories if you still have your Bambi legs.

Grandpa's Farm (Stardew Valley Expanded) https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/3753 If you want to play with SVE, then Grandpa's Farm is a fun farm with several secrets to unlock as you play. You'll need to replace an existing farm type to use this farm.

You can't use Grandpa's Farm and Grampleton Fields without installing Stardew Valley Expanded here and its required mods. If you downloaded it, make sure the folder doesn't have numbers after the name as in Stardew Valley Expanded_12345678, this would be a wrapper folder, look inside it for the actual mod.

My personal favourite dialogue mods are Canon-Friendly Dialogue Expansion and Immersive Festival Dialogue. They're not necessarily romantic but they add more character to the villagers. For a more romantic dialogue you can check out Doki Doki Dialogue, this one is specific for Sebastian, just be aware that this mod isn't compatible with other dialogue mods

I'm assuming it's this mod because it's highly rated and says it works with the other two mods (kinda, apparently SVE makes the halloween maze different every year and this dialog mod messes with that. but that seems to be the only thing)

Some content mods that I haven't tried out yet but plan to next time I do a playthrough are Adventurer's Guild Expanded, Life Cycle, and maybe Canon-Friendly Dialogue Expansion, which, as far as I know, are all also compatible with SVE (except arguably that third one), but don't add anything explicitly to it. First one adds a quest chain involving the Adventurer's Guild. Second one adds rival marriage events. Third one adds a lot of dialogue to the vanilla characters, but I'm not sure how it'll work with SVE also changing some of the same dialogue.

This dialogue expansion mod helps a lot.

Stardew Valley Expanded is definitely a popular mod! I've been playing with it on my newest save, and there's a lot of content there that feels natural to the game. I also know that Ridgeside Village is popular too for new content. Canon-friendly dialogue expansion also adds a lot more dialogue into the game that doesn't feel out of character.

I really, really love this dialogue expansion because it feels SO natural to every character, but still really builds the world out. I love 'Please Remember My Marriage' for the same reason; it fits into the game beautifully. I've also downloaded mods for platonic 10 and 14 heart events, and these seasonal villager outfits. These all feel like they take what exists in the game and deepen it. I started a new save fairly recently and have been with it longer than any before, and I think some of that is because these mods keep things interesting and new even with all the vanilla characters.

It's 5 years old and won't be compatible with Stardew 1.5, let alone SMAPI. Look at some newer dialogue mods, like Canon-Friendly Dialogue Expansion. Always sort by Last Updated on Nexus to avoid this in the future =)
