Converting big video library with av1
I wrote a little script that uses ffmpeg with settings similar to those in the guide, and then another ffmpeg run to extract the subtitles as vtt. I would be happy to share more of my settings if you are interested. Of course, your needs and mine may differ.

SVT-AV1 HDR Encoding (libsvtav1 with ffmpeg)
How about use the parameter "HighDynamicRangeInput" with command line "--enable-hdr 1"? It's from the official page: https://github.com/AOMediaCodec/SVT-AV1/blob/master/Docs/Parameters.md

- Seems like the SVT-AV1 documentation issue #1753 about missing presets explanation is fixed now. And it seems like the preset 0, 1 and 2 are the same thing. Plus tons of other useful encoding guidelines (like how to tune for animation etc.).

- I know it takes years of work to make new encoders, would it be worthwhile for developers to use techniques, work, or code from pre-existing encoders (like x264 or x265, ignoring legal issues)? If so, why doesn't videolan (devs of x264 and 5) make an av1 encoder?

YouTube is now building its own video-transcoding chips
By now Intel has released an open source encoder (BSD-2 + patent grants), tuned for their Xeons:

How to set the speed mode in SVT-VP9 encoder ?
If you are using the SVT-VP9 binary it's -enc-mode https://github.com/OpenVisualCloud/SVT-VP9/blob/master/Docs/svt-vp9_encoder_user_guide.md Somehow it's per default on the fastest, but worst setting.
