  • Oldest Scheme Implementations

STklos was indeed born in 2001, but it was the successor of Stk, which is much older. Its first release was in 1993. As far as I know, STkos did use code from STk, so I'm not sure one couldn't say it was born in 1993, as "STk".
  • Most readable Scheme implementation

That said, I'd just like to mention that I have made an effort to write internals documentation ( general: "hacking", bytecode: "vm") to STklos. It's an interesting implementation because it's easy to add primitives and change the compiler. The internals of the VM is actually a bit more complex... But it's really interesting code.

I've been working on enhancing STklos' macro system. The idea is to implement `syntax-case` properly and use it to obtain a better implementation of `syntax-rules` (the one in STklos is quite old and has some issues).
  • STklos 1.60 released

SRFI 143 has already been accepted, and there are recent pull requests for 170, 215, 217! :)

  • The state if Emacs-style editors using Scheme

One idea that I have been toying with lately is making use of Guile Scheme and Guile-GI, which uses the GObject Introspection framework to automatically bind to the Gtk library. I use Guix to install guile-gi, gtk, and the gobject-introspection packages.
  • gui application development with scheme and gtk
    1 project | /r/scheme | 22 Sep 2022
Guile has G-Golf and guile-gi, which both work fine. Development is not the fastest, but there has been commits within the last year at least in both. Have not had experience with other Scheme implementations. Otherwise there is always the option of doing gtk through an FFI.
  • Introspect generic OOP methods in Guile
    1 project | /r/scheme | 28 May 2022
So I'm currently trying to figure out this API guile-gi and I'm having some trouble nailing down what to use in the tree-selection:get-selected-rows. Does anyone know of a good way to see all the available generics on a method? I also haven't figured out how to step debug these things either.
  • How can I use GTK from Chicken Scheme?
    1 project | /r/lisp | 2 Apr 2021
Nowadays most programming languages that want to use GObject library code (like Gtl+) use GObject Introspection (GI) to automatically generate foreign language bindings that call into the various Gtk+ native APIs written in C. Guile GI does exactly this, so you could copy the source code for Guile GI and maybe just port it over to Chicken Scheme (as long as you don't mind using the GNU General Public v3 license to release your code, because that is what Guile GI uses).
