I can't believe I'm praising Tcl (2008)
Your comment made me curious, so I installed the Perl plugin for IJ <https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/7796-perl> and sure enough, it parsed that str assignment correctly. My hat's off to them!
It also seems <https://github.com/Camelcade/Perl5-IDEA/blob/2023.1.1/plugin...> that one can have line comments in there, too
my $str = q #what is happening here

Check out Duck typing in the Perl IDE
Yes, it does. Page a bit out of date (screenshots at least), but things only improved since then: https://github.com/Camelcade/Perl5-IDEA/wiki/Perl-Debugger

Need help for debugging with Devel:Camelcadedb
-> I have installed also the Perl5-IDEA plugin

How to run/debug perl from Vs:code
Maybe you are running into the same problem I found when I evaluated the editor. Its debugger says it can't find Foo.pm or any compiled eval in general, which excludes huge swathes of Perl code already in production. Switch to Camelcade, that one works fine.

The Perl debugger can be your superpower
Apparently there is also support for IntelliJ IDEA, Vim and Sublime Text, and Komodo IDE.

Jetbrains unbundles AI Assistant and is now available as a separate plugin
I've not used Toolbox that other commenters are mentioning, but there is an unofficial ppa. https://github.com/JonasGroeger/jetbrains-ppa

Should I use MINT?
As a dev, I love the Jetbrains IDEs, and strongly recommend using Jonas Groeger's PPA to automate the install for you: https://github.com/JonasGroeger/jetbrains-ppa . If you use it, send him a quick thanks as when I thanked him he told me I was the first person to ever thank him for his effort setting up and maintaining it!
- [Mint 21] Why does pycharm spawn another icon on panel when all other apps grouped?

Use Snap they said, it is good they said! haha
Use this PPA instead (when there is new updates from IntelliJ, it triggers a downloader that will download from official servers): https://github.com/JonasGroeger/jetbrains-ppa

New to Mint and Linux in general , need some tips!
If you're using Jetbrains stuff under Linux, use Jonas' private package archive (PPA). https://github.com/JonasGroeger/jetbrains-ppa . He spent a lot of time setting it up so it's automated to give you the latest updates as a package. I've tried all the other options for Jetbrains stuff under Linux, and they suck hard compared to this. Jonas is an utter champ for this work he's done!
