- Should I be using this driver for HD 4000?

macOS Monterey on good old ThinkPad X230
Almost everything is working properly, except I can't boot into OS without mouse and charger plugged, OC throws some error and restarts to OC boot menu. Also I can't get VGA port working since Apple doesn't support this anymore. Bluetooth and Touchpad/Trackpoint should work fine, but I can't check that since I have these parts hardware broken. I was able to get iGPU work by updating from Big Sur and installing [Patch HD4000](https://github.com/chris1111/Patch-HD4000-Monterey). I have an Intel AC-7260 Wi-Fi card if someone would be interested.

T480 Hackintosh V2
Try to follow these instructions (link1, link2). Updating from Big Sur is better method, also you should disable SIP in recovery mode before updating. And it works pretty well on my X230 (should work on other laptops too). Only main disadvantage of this patching I can't re-enable because it's breaking my installation.

Successful Big Sur install on ivy bridge i3
It's a bit tricky, but it's possible to get it work. You can try follow these two instructions (link1, link2). I tried it on my X230 (I think it also applies to other laptops) and Monterey works pretty well (except I have to have SIP disabled).

What’s the procedure of updating machine whose system files are modified? Entire new installation?
If you used https://github.com/chris1111/Patch-HD4000-Monterey for your patch, try seeing what they say in the repo or try asking there.

Planned obsolescence in the name of security by Apple
How would running Montery with it's memory leak issue help me??? All of that requires disabling SIP too. Not practical from a security standpoint. I'd have to manaully patch the Intel HD4000 driver into the OS with this: https://github.com/chris1111/Patch-HD4000-Monterey. This is hardly a "solution" when Ubuntu works fine out of the box.

Success! Big Sur 11.6 Ivy Bridge with MacPro7,1 SMBIOS.
Bringing over some Big Sur components will get the HD 4000 working but you’d be doing surgery on the system files: https://github.com/chris1111/Patch-HD4000-Monterey

How reliable are prebuilt SDST?
Hah, Common mistake, but easily fixable. Follow the ACPI guide. It's not perfect, but it covers all the basics you'll probably need. If you're interested in more, check out OCLittle's guide (translated by another user). The files are a bit outdated, but the explanations are great.

Is Z490 worth it over Z370 if you want 'working out of the box' experience? I read the Dortania Anti-Buying guide and it seems that Z490 has many issues, from NIC to RTC vs AWAC, and even at Dortania they are not recommended. What do you think?
