Do you think there are any practical / genuine benefits of using rich text in apps like in Microsoft Word, over markdown?
Another thing - on the PC, I use OneMore. It is an addon created by u/stemarcoh, which has been immensely useful in doing some of the things - especially custom styles. (https://github.com/stevencohn/OneMore)

TIL: No Search/Replace
OneMore plugin has Search/Replace, which I highly recommend.

Is there a way to set a "read-later" or reading lists on Onenote?
The OneMore add-in recently released a Navigation window that has three features, one of which is adding a page to a "reading list".

It's 2023 - why the heck do we still not have a way to merge table cells?
Yep, I use the OneMore addon to bridge the gap for things like that - it adds Search & Replace to CTRL+H. The latest update adds a command palette (CTRL+SHIFT+P) which is super handy.

Are any students here willing to help a total newbie to One Note? Just started using it for my notes.
I also want to add that if you use OneNote on a desktop computer or laptop, then you can install and use OneNote Gem, OneTastic and OneMore. These are specialized user-community created plugging for your OneNote application, which can be utilized on the desktop or laptop platform, these pluggings definitely expand the capabilities and features of OneNote to a really good degree.

Adding a stopwatch ?
Download the latest release from here (5.8.2 as of today) and read the installation instructions here

I kind of hate OneNote
Second, look at add-ins, such as OneMore. This can customize section tabs as well as notebooks. It can not only resize multiple images as once but also lets you import PDF and PowerPoint printouts with a preferred image width (this feature is actually about to be released, not yet release!)
- Why does OneNote lack basic features?
-
Whats a good way for inserting code in the middle of my notes?
Use an addon like OneMore which can highlight code text for you.

Let's talk about my 'painful to read' old handwritten journal notes in Evernote...in BEAR!
There is an OCR plugin for Obsidian that supports search (haven’t used it but now I’m curious): https://github.com/MohrJonas/obsidian-ocr However I believe Bear 2.0 is going to have a pretty sweet OCR tool built-in, so if you can hang on until it’s released or nab the beta that could be worth trying out.
- Does Obsidian suitable for my usecase (I use Notion + OneNote)?
- I'm joining Obsidian full-time as CEO

I didn't realize the community has grown so much..
-OCR: this is what i've found so far but haven't tested: https://github.com/MohrJonas/obsidian-ocr I've been waiting for a good ocr plugin,

Show HN: Obsidian Canvas – An infinite space for your ideas
Not quite there yet, but there is an Obsidian plugin developing similar functionality: https://github.com/MohrJonas/obsidian-ocr

Support for recognising latex
Thanks, I didn't know they had a student plan. I guess I'll use that for now, I opened an issue on this plugin and the dev said it's something they're willing to add in the future.
