Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Synching to different directories
Yes, that works when you create folders as symbolic links. Just be aware that every change you make in such a folder will not be automatically synced. You need to manually start sync again or use a tool like OneDrive Bully, which will kick off sync every # minutes.

Always make backups
I hate that, man would I be upset. I'm going to play the IT guy here and offer some info. OneDrive + Google Drive are both free. You can download them (if you're running Windows 10 it's built-in) create an account and then configure a symbolic link + OneDriveBully to have it sync the game save folder (and whatever else) to your cloud storage.
