Hey, that's a great suggestion that I hadn't considered! I'm having a look at Viro to see if it can help with that.

As I said earlier, using react native you can develop for any platform and not limited to mobile. But its not as easy as it sounds like. For desktop apps, React native Windows is used which is maintained by folks at Microsoft, and still in active development, so a lot of things might change. For VR app, ViroReact is used, which is again is in active development. So its development is not as convenient as expo, and for someone new to react native, i won't suggest going that route. But once you are experienced, not one is stopping you and these are great technologies to develop native apps.

I have googled and found a few libraries regarding AR/VR for react native. It seems to me that viro media has: https://github.com/ViroCommunity/viro and looks okay, but it seems that they haven't released anything in a while. I'm trying to create an AR app that is retail focused like this: https://imgur.com/a/tUMgu1W

The best open source source code I know is: https://github.com/ViroCommunity/viro/blob/main/readmes/EXAMPLES.md It use javascript , react-native and you can compile it with android and ios But you will need to pay the dev license to google and appla you can use Transparent Videos , Text or 3D animations

I am using expo setup with tabs template.

Before we begin working on our project, we must set it up and install all the necessary dependencies. We will be using Expo for this project. Expo is a React Native management tool that handles a lot of heavy stuff for us, such as efficiently compiling code and assets, as well as provides us with a productive development environment. Also we will be using Typescript for this project, but don't worry, the process is practically identical to Javascript, so if you don't know Typescript that's fine. This article assumes some basic understanding of React and React Native , such as components, hooks and state. You must also have Node.js installed on your computer.

Expo saves us from the complex configurations required to create a native application with the React Native CLI, making it the easiest and fastest way to build and publish React Native apps.

But some bugs don't get fixed for years. E.g. there was an issue with expo-secure-store not working well on android after app reinstallatiins. It apparently got fixed now 5 years after it was reported: expo-secure-store bug
