Foss way to download music
Musify downloads from youtube database. Can download FLAC format (lossless from the TY source, but not true lossless as its from YT). Thats what I do and then reencode to mp3 with high bitrate.

Who are these people?
Officially it is browser only, though you can make it a Chrome app. There are open source Electron wrappers for it though which will make it a “desktop app” in the same sense that Spotify/Tidal is a “desktop app” (The Spotify and Tidal “desktop apps” are also just Electron wrappers for their browser versions).
