I built a MIDI player for macOS to replace QuickTime Player 7 (and it's on GitHub)
If you're on 10.11, try v1.1. It's old, but should work. In case you upgraded your MBP to 10.12 Sierra, try v1.10. If you went past Sierra to High Sierra, try v1.11.1.
