The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Bootload and program atmega2560 standalone using arduino mega
I want to program and use an ATMEGA2560 breakout board. I intend to only use the minimal setup (only the breakout board, using its internal oscillator). I want to bootload this into the atmega2560.

Alternative for arduino
Resources I used: - How to Burn ATTiny85 Using Arduino-Mega As ISP : 5 Steps - Instructables - To program Arduino as an ISP. This was for my Arduino mega. There are a more than a few links for "normal" Arduinos if you google a bit. - GitHub - SpenceKonde/ATTinyCore: Arduino core for ATtiny 1634, 828, x313, x4, x41, x5, x61, x7 and x8 - arduino support for attiny microcontrollers.

Using FastLED with ATTiny85 (Adafruit Trinket 5v)
Using this ATtiny85 board support building the 20 LED variant of the blink sketch in the Readme I get:
- ATTiny85 timers
- Library for attiny26

ATtiny85 + IR2110
The Arduino core (i.e. the Arduino libraries) for the ATTiny85 (and a couple more ATTinys) is here and you can find the link for the ATTiny85 specific information a bit down the main page which, inside, includes this excelent refence picture.

What’s the next logical step away from Arduino microcontrollers when you’re ready to move into commercial production?
After that go check the analogRead implementation in the ATTinyCore and the Arduino Samd core (it's in wiring_analog.c)
What are some alternatives?
When comparing MegaCore and ATTinyCore you can also consider the following projects:
MiniCore - Arduino hardware package for ATmega8, ATmega48, ATmega88, ATmega168, ATmega328 and ATmega328PB
tinyproto - Tiny Software Protocol for communication over UART, SPI, etc
