Upgrading firmware on an i3 Mega using Cura and a USB cable? The screen is unchanged.
Then I tried the same method with a different firmware from GitHub which is Marlin 1.1.9. This correctly displays I send M115. But the screen is still unchanged.
- I was wondering why my bed temp is -56C coupled with smell of burned electronics

Can't get heater to reliably heat... AI3M
Okay this is driving me nuts. I picked up an Anycubic I3 Mega second hand. It's got the github marlin firmware, some aftermarket drivers (bigtreetech tmc2208 v 3.0, normal wiring), what I believe to be the Mega S extruder (tension spring, totally enclosed) and no further mods as far as I can see.

Been wanting to get a 3d printer for 7 years, finally decided to do it. Here's my first Benchy!
Also, you can find some custom Marlin firmware with BLTouch support and other things on Github. I use https://github.com/knutwurst/Marlin-2-0-x-Anycubic-i3-MEGA-S but https://github.com/davidramiro/Marlin-Ai3M also exists. Just make sure you get the right firmware if you go down that route.

Anyone have a tutorial for installing an auto bed leveling sensor for Mega Pro?
I don't have the Pro, just the S - but just finished up installing a 3d touch about 5 minutes ago using this firmware and tutorial/wiki: https://github.com/knutwurst/Marlin-2-0-x-Anycubic-i3-MEGA-S The guide also has the wiring / pins /etc.

Getting layer shift issues
If you print too fast, skipping is likely to occur. This is a separate issue from the firmware. It's also possible that the new firmware is causing an issue. What firmware are you using? There is only one firmware for this printer: https://github.com/knutwurst/Marlin-2-0-x-Anycubic-i3-MEGA-S There is no other viable option!
