- How do you create a lavalink server?

Can I make a music bot that plays audio from any site?
yes, youtube-dl will play from most audio sources, or you could use something like lavalink
-
Having some delay issues with discord.py and youtube-dl for my music bot. Any recommendations?
You should look into lavalink, it removes a lot of these struggles for you

problem with streaming audio
i'm not sure how you would do that cleanly, you may want to look into LavaLink and a wrapper for it like WaveLink. together these take away a lot of the lower level annoyances of making a music bot.

Google has killed Discord's best music bot
> i wonder how it would work out if a bot used youtube-dl to snarf audio tracks.
youtube-dl + ffmpeg was the "traditional" way of doing it, but it didn't scale very well. These days, the majority of people use lavaplayer[0] based solutions like lavalink[1] to stream audio.

Segmentation fault
I love how i read this comment, was unsure about whether it was sarcasm, decided not to bother, checked my github, and immediately got a bug report about a segfault. Perfection.

Good(ish) news! The playlists that I update on the YouTube Channel can now be exported to SoundCloud and Spotify! Kind of. Read more for an explanation.
After a few hoops, I managed (with the help of another redditor) to set up a Discord Bot that would stream music 24/7. The main appeal of this bot was that through a library called lavaplayer, it would stream sources from Youtube, Bandcamp, Spotify(kind of) and Soundcloud. I started to optimizeit a bit and eventually got (IMO) a pretty good service, although no one really listened in on it. Great! Disparity problem solved. Then YouTube stated being a dick and putting hard rate limits on their videos, meaning the majority of the songs couldn't be played by the discord bot. I fought this for a while, and ultimately YouTube won. Boo. Still, I didn't stop adding to the database of releases, however because the bot was gone, there wasn't a service that would centralize different sources together.
