Sure, the most straightforward way is probably using the gdx-liftoff setup tool instead of the normal one.

Does anyone have or know where to get the libgdx 1.8 or 1.9 setup tool?
I don't think gdx-setup supports Kotlin. You can see Migrating an existing project to Kotlin. However, gdx-liftoff claims to support Kotlin.
