Is it possible to remap keys completely, not just reorder them with Via? For example 2 (base) / @ (shift) -> [ (base) / 2 (shift)
Override keys : This will do exactly what u/Doomguy3003 wanted. Ex: sending delete when shift + backspace are pressed -> ko_make_basic(MOD_MASK_SHIFT, KC_BSPACE, KC_DELETE).

30-40% split keyboard users: how do your punctuation/symbol/number layer(s) look like?
Just stumbled over this (not merged yet). But if I'm not mistaken this would solve your issue.

Split keyboards for smaller hands
It takes a while to retrain your muscle memory, I have a navigation layer on my keyboards, I'm moving the cursor with hjkl and home/end/pgup/pgdown are directly above the homerow. Once you got used to it it's second nature, you don't really think about hitting the layer key anymore. Same goes for symbols or the num layer, frustrating in the beginning but worth it once you're used to it.

I'm using this on my microdox. It's not perfect, but I adapted what I used on my Lily for a long time.
