I have used both as well. I lean towards MySQL (MariaDB) because a lot of my workload is handled in containers and it’s lighter and easier for me to compose with a MariaDB container. I use the MySQL .NET DLL to access the DB using Add-Type.

Are you running the server locally? I generally don't use the MySQL Installer and opt to install just the connector from https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/

Get the .NET connector for MySQL from https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/ and build an SSIS package (or use the Import Data Wizard, which creates an SSIS package behind the scenes) to pull the data from MySQL into SQL Server.

You’re on the right track, but SqlConnection is for SQL Server. You want MySqlConnection and can download the connector here https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/net/
