Pico C repeating timer interrupt not working
My end goal is to be able to produce sound. I am going through V Hunter Adams Youtube videos (code here), and i am *trying* to get direct digital synthesis to work.

Help with PIO on this VGA library
The lower four IRQ flags for each PIO block can be mapped onto the PIO's interrupt request lines. So, you could trigger a software interrupt on either ARM by mapping IRQ 0-3 to PIO0_IRQ_0 or PIO0_IRQ_1 (or same for PIO1), and then attaching an interrupt service routine to that interrupt. You would trigger that interrupt right before the backporch (line 38 of the PIO state machine linked here: https://github.com/vha3/Hunter-Adams-RP2040-Demos/blob/master/VGA_Graphics/VGA_Graphics_Primitives/vsync.pio. The code already uses irqs 0 and 1, so I would use irq 2 or 3 if you plan to do this.

How can I get started with embedded systems that isn't Arduino?
There is an official sdk in C and C++ as well as a really thorough sdk guide, and a separate "getting started" guide which shows you how to upload files using command line and vs code.

Getting blink example to work on Pico W on Arch Linux
Arch is using Gcc 13.0.1 and there's a bug fix that I had to manually apply so that uint16_t could be resolve. See https://github.com/raspberrypi/pico-sdk/pull/1318/files.

How can I access the Pico W's LED with the rp-hal crate?
the LED of the W is hooked to the wireless chip. in the c sdk, the function to tell the chip to set it's gpio pin(s) is: cyw43_arch_gpio_put(CYW43_WL_GPIO_LED_PIN, 1); where CYW43_WL_GPIO_LED_PIN is the macro to the LED.
