Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Ignoring mass reformatting commits with git blame
I work with one 10+ year old codebase where multiple people had different, conflicting, on-save code formatters. Ended up writing a vim plugin which runs code formatters on all sides before diffing https://github.com/Tarmean/Gistory.vim

This might not be exactly what you're looking for, but vim-sandwich provides the as text object, that goes to whatever surrounding you're in, whether it's quotes, parens, \begin{environment}...\end{environment} in TeX files, or whatever other sandwich recipes you have set up.
