Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.

https://github.com/g3rv4/FakeRelay/ (ideally together with https://github.com/g3rv4/GetMoarFediverse) Taken together, these two mean that when you follow hashtags, it'll pull posts with these tags from any of the connected instances. Crucially, it pulls federated posts as well as local ones. So once you've connected a handful of large instances, you got a good proportion of the fediverse covered.

So what hashtags do you follow on mastodon?
Best solution I've found so far is using Ice Cubes (iOS). It has a drop down at the top of the UI to show "Lists", "Followed Hashtags", and "Local Timelines".

Certain apps will allow you to open other instances / Timelines without needing to have a separate account. I use Ice Cubes https://github.com/Dimillian/IceCubesApp but I also have a few different accounts for different servers.
