Tips for newcomer (Miyoo Mini Plus)
With Gamma OS for the 405m, I'm able to play pretty much all PS1 games and a decent number of PS2/GC games. Especially when using the high performance power profile built within Gamma OS. Nearly all of the N64 games run great as well as NDS and 3DS. Dreamcast runs great. Haven't tried any other systems outside of that yet. I should mention that I prefer the smaller form factor of the 405m over the RP2S. But if size isn't an issue, then that's a perfectly viable option. Although, I cannot speak on performance when it comes to that device.

Help, please: RG552 or RG405M?
The only down side is the hassle of setting up Android. The 405M is Android-based too, but there's a custom Android fork for it that should handle a lot of the setup for you.
