Can explain to me why people are complaining about the update taking long
There are a lot of big issues with the game that have been there since it got it's spike in popularity, mainly no accounts/accountability for shitty behavior in-game, hackers, and not enough content/maps. These things seem like they would be easy to implement; I have literally seen a team of 4 students rebuild the game from the ground-up so they could add and make custom maps, it only took them a month. Modders have created custom servers by reverse engineering the game that have better anti cheat than the official servers. Modders have also been successful in making and adding more cosmetics quickly. These people literally do it for free while the team that's making all of the money from this game can't seem to do it in a timely fashion.

Anybody Got Guides Info On Hosting Among Us Games
If you want host your own server you can use Impostor (https://github.com/impostor/impostor). If you don't want to deal with setting up an Among Us server yourself you could always use ServerFlex's Among Us Server Hosting which is free.

Mod Development
I recommend to start with little server side plugin with impostor like random map or mix up all players skin, colors pet and name.

We're working on a custom Among Us map! Prison Break
It would be difficult to add it to the original game, and it would take many hours of work to just replace an existing map (Doing so might not even be possible). However, I'm actually working on a recreation of Among Us, aiming to make my custom client compatible with Innersloth's client. (I have only tested it on Windows and Android and my current version just crashes on Android.) I could try adding this map into my custom client, but then I'd also have to fork the Impostor project and make the server support the custom map as well.

How Do You Modify The Server Code
You should use Impostor instead. You can run your custom Among Us server with this.

Please share with developers. This is a game issue hurting everyone's QoL by forcing unfair game hosting
If you want to learn more about how game codes are encoded and decoded, check this Github page: https://github.com/Impostor/Impostor/blob/dev/src/Impostor.Api/Innersloth/GameCodeParser.cs
