I wished for a Helm of telepathy but got opposite alignment instead. What did I do wrong?
Fixed it - https://github.com/k21971/EvilHack/commit/0edfa0706c19c5b3931e11f3daadaebf450d0d67

is there a slashem binary for Debian?
Pretty sure same thing, but that's also got a repo. EvilHack has a step-by-step in the README though if that helps. It's not super typical to publish binaries for variants that are actively developed anymore, I think.

EvilHack 0.8.0 'officially' released, work on next version
This is now a thing (for next version) - https://github.com/k21971/EvilHack/commit/76ddd2c0a300f7c6ce97af0074ff166052f946c9

EvilHack 0.8.0 has been released
The Hand of Vecna - previously, if you defeated Vecna, there was only a 50% chance that the Eye of Vecna would drop, or nothing at all. Now, it's 50/50 for either the Eye or the Hand. The stats for the Hand of Vecna are many, and can be seen here - https://github.com/k21971/EvilHack/commit/f697fd9bca00ae89618f71d84912947525d39e5f - suffice to say, it is an extremely powerful artifact, but its use comes with consequences if you're willing to accept them.

Why am I feeling guilty in my own temple?
Some back story: because abusing your alignment and being able to know when it occurs is significantly more important in EvilHack than vanilla, I had added more chances for feedback when it does occur (see this commit). Somewhere, it looks like I added a pline where one wasn't needed. Or something. I've noticed it as well, just walking along, exploring the dungeon, minding my own business, then out of the blue 'you feel guilty'.

EvilHack 0.7.1 officially released
EvilHack version 0.7.1 has been available for public play for a few months now, but as of today it has been officially released - https://github.com/k21971/EvilHack/releases - the source code and windows binary can be downloaded, and ready to play locally on windows. The list of changes found in this version can be found here - https://github.com/k21971/EvilHack/blob/master/doc/evilhack-changelog.md#version-071 - a couple new objects and a new monster made their way into this version, but the majority of changes for 0.7.1 were bugfixes.

Did I just fail to bless-genocide L?
Check this out - https://github.com/k21971/EvilHack/commit/d359ea85ed8d9c504a64b6a52a402ae190c71bf1 - and there was a follow-up commit to address a minor issue with the original commit.

Really evil evilhack!
In my variant HackEM, I'm paralleling a lot of evil stuff like this, but I let the player unlock shambling horror lookups with a wand of probing or a stethoscope (but you do have to get kind of close to use the latter!) In HackEM, horrors might be even more horrible because of all the different attack types I've imported (larval infection, ... so there's that :P

A new NetHack variant has emerged - behold Hack'EM!
For example, mist wolves now can poof out clouds of mist, shadow ogres/wolves will darken rooms as they move around, and athols howl an "ahool" sound that aggravates monsters. Zouthern monsters will commonly death-drop boomerangs, and whetstones were quite lame in Slash'EM, so I have revamped them - even giving the Yeoman a blessed one to start with. There are way too many changes to list here, please see the changelog for a everything I have added or changed.
What are some alternatives?
When comparing EvilHack and hackem you can also consider the following projects:
NetHack - Official NetHack Git Repository
GnollHack - Rogue-like game based on NetHack
UnNetHack - NetHack fork that is in development
SlashEM - Hardfought server build of Slash'EM.
