Wanted - IPTV Front-end
Greetings, all! I am attempting to set up a fantasy TV station for my friends. Currently, I am using ersatztv for the backend, which provides me with all of the content and channel creation and management. So far I am happy with it because it provides hardware transcoding for the streams on consumer hardware.
-
Is there a service that can turn my tv shows into a channel?
Yep, another one is https://ersatztv.org/
-
What's the best way to create your own TV channels?
Personally, my preferred one is ErsatzTV. It's for a couple of reasons but they mainly come down to not being tied directly to the media server application itself.
-
Family approved self hosted apps?
ErsatzTV: https://ersatztv.org/ — custom IPTV channels from my media library (e.g., a comedy channel, 1980s movies, etc)

Chocolate, an opensource alternative to Plex
Projects like DizqueTV and https://ersatztv.org/ were created to emulate a HDHomeRun to make “fake live tv” available in Plex’s Live TV interface, using Library content to emulate live TV channels you would pick up over an antenna.

Gamechanger Plex TV channels with dizquetv. Didn't know about this until tonight!
I have a potato (J4105) Plex server and tried DizqueTV, ErsatzTV and Jason's DizqueTV fork very recently. But I couldn't get it stable unfortunately. When one series would work great, another one wouldn't, or even refused to play. Or certain program boundaries made the player crash from time to time. And watermark overlays were another story of it's own.

I accidentally built a meme search engine
I steered a friend towards Paperless (and away from an LLM solution) as a way of searching/accessing GBs of architectural PDFs recently - so far, it’s apparently working well for them.

Home Lab Guide
Since last year I’ve been configuring and maintaining my homelab setup and it is just amazing.
I’ve learned so much about containers, virtual machines and networking. Some of the self hosted applications like paperless-ngx [1] and immich [2] are much superior in terms of features than the proprietary cloud solutions.
With the addition of VPN services like tailscale [3] now I can access my homelab from anywhere in the world.
The only thing missing is to setup a low powered machine like NUC or any mini PC so I can offload the services I need 24/7 and save electricity costs.
If you can maintain it and have enough energy on weekends to perform routine maintenance and upgrades. I would 100% recommend setting up your own homelab.
