Is it completely hopeless? No, there are external aids, like https://github.com/ToranSharma/Duo-Strength plugin, which tries to organise the courses a bit. Because it was written by volunteers without access to Duo's secret, it's probably not optimal, but it's much better than nothing. This should be a core feature of Duo.
