Microsoft's upscaling technology
I think there was speculation that people were drawing a line between "well, nvidia's stuff is using deep learning, and MS have DirectML (machine learning) as part of directx, so..." but nothing ever came of it. I certainly don't think anything was announced otherwise you'd be able to find it over on places like the DX team blog and other developers would be talking about it.

Will MS Direct Storage need PCIe 4.0 NVMes?
Released and actually adopted by developers, and then seeing a benefit in games. I'd love to see it patched into existing games but I'm not counting on seeing it in a big way for PC soon. I don't think it's been mentioned in the notes for upcoming versions of windows or the DX blog after the announcement, although it wouldn't be at all surprising if they've got private channels to some developers

Myth: Windows 3.1 was just a shell on top of DOS
Windows 3.x and 9x are "shells on top of DOS" the same way that Linux can be a "shell on top of DOS": https://github.com/haileys/doslinux

Installing Windows and Linux into the same partition
Would you consider WSL for DOS a good enough approximation of the reverse process?
