Actually, you can version control the schema! Just store your sql script for entity creation in git, and deploy with dacpacs and sqlpackage. As for the tests, I'll do a little bit of self promotion here: https://github.com/Geims83/qest (feedback is welcome)

On the other hand, logic in the database is difficult to test and to keep in source control. For the testing part, I've created https://github.com/Geims83/qest :) For the source control, I like to use https://github.com/rr-wfm/MSBuild.Sdk.SqlProj and text files :)

So, after some thinking, I made this: Geims83/qest: A simple, cross platform, command line tool to test MSSQL procedures (github.com) As the description goes, it's a (.net) command line tool to test procedures call by defining test files in yaml format.
