This question can not be answered simply. If you want to know which purchase would be the most efficient at any point, you can use Cookie Monster.

Is it safe?
If you just want the golden cookie notifier: there is a heavenly upgrade that does this, and if I recall correctly, this is also a feature in Cookie Monster.

The krumblor crash was recently fixed (like 20 hours ago or something).

Any ETA on a fully working Cookie Monster mod for the steam version?
git user Urganot has a fork that works and is currently working with CM creator to fix it. you can see his comments here For the fix as he has provided in the link you can make a mod with this in the main.js

Im looking for a simple mod that adds a chime every time a golden cookie spawns for the steam version
https://github.com/CookieMonsterTeam/CookieMonster/issues/973 the fix someone put in here worked for notifications. I had to ascend to get rid of the dragon egg bug, do not get the dragon egg if you are using cookie monster at the moment

https://github.com/ozh/cookieclicker/releases You can download a local version of the latest version of Cookie Clicker here. Afterwards, if you delete line 53 of minigameGrimoire.js (if (!Game.hasBuff('Dragonflight')) choices.push('click frenzy');), you can play Cookie Clicker with the new functionality you want.

How do I change versions?
Just look up "cookie clicker version x.y.z source code" and try to find a github link. I personally used to use this version of cookie clicker (2.021) which can be found at this github repository. (the official website is blocked on my school chromebook). I recently switched to this mirror found at this github repository. There probably won't be a mirror for every version of Cookie Clicker but hey, there's no harm in trying. I also recommend reading some of the aforementioned github repository pages for further instructions on how to play an earlier version. Hope this helped!
