Playing music via WiFi on a device on the same network
What type of speaker? I use https://github.com/SamDel/ChromeCast-Desktop-Audio-Streamer to stream things to ChromeCast Audio devices. It technically streams everything from my computer, not just MusicBee

What is the max amount of google minis you have had play music from Spotify at once?
I know its not the workaround you might be looking for, but something you could use until you figure it out. Just install https://github.com/SamDel/ChromeCast-Desktop-Audio-Streamer on your computer, and then open the spotify app, or navigate to the webapp. From here you can play your music and your desktop audio will cast to your speaker group without stuttering. Keep in mind all audio from the computer will play on the speaker group, with a delay, so you'll want to turn down the speakers on your computer to zero. Good luck

Cast Desktop without Audio?
Does anyone know a way I can cast only the video portion of my desktop and not the audio? For example, I use Chromecast Audio Streamer to stream my desktop audio only and not video. I am now looking for something that works the opposite - casts only the video and not the audio.

Any update of speaker group volume control?
First one is some software called "Chromecast Desktop Audio Streamer" that lets you change the volume of individual speakers OR groups from your PC. You can download it here

Problem: Nest Audio is terrible(?)
Have a look through the troubleshooting wiki. If all else fails you can manually add the speaker. https://github.com/SamDel/ChromeCast-Desktop-Audio-Streamer/wiki

Looking for a central music player
I use a really old Windows laptop (named Old Deller) to cast the audio output (using VB cable as an audio sink so the laptop doesn’t play the audio from its speakers) with the program https://github.com/SamDel/ChromeCast-Desktop-Audio-Streamer to a chrome cast audio home group (5 chromecast audio’s connected to various speaker sets). It works pretty well, they don’t go out of phase, but sometimes the chromecasts lose connection and it’s difficult to get it going again. Old Deller is old af (Vista sticker) and uses its Wifi card which may be some of the issues, or the chromecast audios might be finicky idk. Takes a few minutes to restart the comp and fuck with the app. It plays audio files with MusicBee + its remote app (iTunes remote app had an issue with giant playlists for a long time, idk if Apple ever fixed they seemed not to give a shit about the remote app) and it also uses VoiceMeeter to capture and play the audio from a physical XM Radio. There’s a 5-10 sec delay, which is no problem if just listening to music.

Show HN: Kew – A Terminal Music Player for Linux
I use mpd with various clients, mostly also from terminal. mpd support would be great - and actually the only reason for me to try it out.

"Unacceptable": Spotify bricking Car Thing devices in Dec. without refunds
No need to use the server, Navidrome allows any client to connect remotely (WAN included) and play music that is hosted on the server. It also can be set up to transcode on the fly uncompressed music when it is accessed from a metered connection to minimize bandwidth usage. I barely scratched its surface, but it looks promising. The only requirement is that it needs the correct metadata to identify songs and download the correct lyrics, album images etc. There's a software called Musicbrainz Picard however that can be used to identify songs with incomplete or missing id3 tags data and it works using audio fingerprinting against a remote database so it should be accurate.

Back to your post, if you need to play music from the server, take a look at the mpd daemon and its remote interfaces. It does the opposite as it plays from the server while the clients would be used as remote controls so that you can for example install mpd on a small single board computer (or more scattered around the house), configure them to access local or remote mount point, then grab your phone and tell the server to play the desired song.

MphpD - A PHP library for MPD
Last week I released v1.0.0 of MphpD - a fully-featured, dependency-free PHP library for the Music Player Daemon. It's my first take on a library so feedback and suggestions is very much welcome and appreciated.

Festival v1.0.0 - A music player
Eventually I'd like to continue with the other frontends I have planned, starting with festivald which will be a music daemon, similar to mpd.

Jukebox/local radio via UDP
It's not written in Java, but if you want to look at some source code and/or protocols to see how it's already been done, look at mpd (https://www.musicpd.org/). IIRC, it actually uses TCP.

How do I use Server as Speakers?
Well, it’s a slightly odd use case in that normally the server would just be the server and not also the player, but given the kit you’ve got it makes sense. Probably what you want is MPD plus one of the MPD web clients.
