The number of mentions indicates the total number of mentions that we've tracked plus the number of user suggested alternatives.
Stars - the number of stars that a project has on GitHub. Growth - month over month growth in stars.
Activity is a relative number indicating how actively a project is being developed. Recent commits have higher weight than older ones.
For example, an activity of 9.0 indicates that a project is amongst the top 10% of the most actively developed projects that we are tracking.

Using Exceptions for all Error Handling.... in Theory
This'll require that you write a lot of classes to constrain parameters. May I suggest you don't, and instead use snct::Constrained?

Error handling in API design
I would recommend also watching the second half of Ben Deane's Using Types Effectively and, if that made you think "I should start writing some Total Functions," I suggest you follow it up by looking at the snct::Constrained class for contraining input parameters.

I created snct::constraints, a wrapper that lets you express constraints on parameters directly in code. This lets you write total functions, and puts the constraints right there in code so your users don't need to read separate docs to understand what does/doesn't violate preconditions.
What are some alternatives?

WinToast - WinToast is a lightly library written in C++ which brings a complete integration of the modern toast notifications of Windows 8 & Windows 10. Toast notifications allows your app to inform the users about relevant information and timely events that they should see and take action upon inside your app, such as a new instant message, a new friend request, breaking news, or a calendar event.
Pepper - PE32 (x86) and PE32+ (x64) binaries analysis tool, resources viewer/extractor.
