Is there a browser addon which locally archives every website I visit?
Here. An archivist browser controller that caches everything you browse, a library server with full text search to serve your archive.
- Show HN: Irchiver, your full-resolution personal web archive
-
Ask HN: Full text search engine in JavaScript for English and and Chinese?
Following your "hilarious" and disrespectful answer here https://github.com/i5ik/22120/issues/63#issuecomment-7275272..., I would prefer that you remove any reference to SingleFile in the description of your project. I could not open an issue because you blocked me. And please don't accuse people without proof.
- 22120: self-host the Internet with an Offline Archive. Similar to ArchiveBox, SingleFile and WebMemex. Works well with WorldBrain/Memex to give you full-text search. Why not WARC? Uses Chrome DevTools protocol to intercept all requests, and caches responses against a key of (method, URL)
-
Request: Proxy caching all visited websites text in DB, making history searchable
https://github.com/i5ik/22120 is a tool that archives as you browse that you can then view offline later
- Is the there a way I can cache videos(reddit.4chan) I watch in browser (Linux)?

So you want to write a GUI framework
My solution to this (it's been done before), is to use the existing browser engine (not the system webview) installed. So far I only utilize Chrome, but as the way I connect to it is over the Chrome DevTools protocol which is somewhat fluent with the Remote Debugging Protocol[0] that Firefox is doing, this is a reasonable approach.
So far my "tool" to do this is simply a template repository with some conveniences, providing in essence a skeleton for these types of apps. I hope to flesh this out a little more, and expose a much richer API, as well as convert some of my existing popular apps (like 22120[1]) to the "framework".
The benefit of this is Graderjs has a built in 'app builder' that can create a cross-platform binary (excluding or ignoring the necessity (on MacOS) and near-necessity (on Windows) to sign your executable somehow, that lets you display your UI in JS/HTML/CSS using the already installed browser engine, as well as run code in NodeJS and using the rich APIs[2] of the browser engine itself. I'm really happy with this project and think that, even tho it's small now, it will in time become my most popular and powerful one: even bigger than my remote browser and popular web archiver.
Just give it time! :)

Ente: Open-Source, E2E Encrypted, Google Photos Alternative
They don't "allow" it, but most apps that need background execution just ask permission for geolocation tracking and pretend to use it, for example iSH[1]. There are a few activities that the app can do to prevent itself from being suspended when it goes out of focus, like playing sound, geolocation etc.

How to copy a file between devices?
Android: install termux, `pkg install openssh`, and preferably run `termux-setup-storage` to give it access to storage folders.
iOS: I think https://ish.app/ ?

How Virtualisation came to Apple Silicon Macs
This of course hasn't been true for years, eg: http://omz-software.com/pythonista/index.html
And you can run a C compiler (or anything) inside https://ish.app/ too.

ScummVM officially released in the App Store
False. iSH is an x86 "bytecode" emulator.
"Possibly the most interesting thing I wrote as part of iSH is the JIT. It's not actually a JIT since it doesn't target machine code. Instead it generates an array of pointers to functions called gadgets, and each gadget ends with a tailcall to the next function; like the threaded code technique used by some Forth interpreters."

Windows is now an app for iPhones, iPads, Macs, and PCs
There is an x86 virtual machkne running Linux available on the App Store now.

Now would Apple allow a full blown Windows VM is a different question

Stop EU Chat Control
There are plenty of solutions for running Python in an IDE on the iPad. There is an even an x86 emulator and a Linux terminal built on top of it in the App Store.
https://ish.app/
It can run anything that you can run on an x86 in user mode. I downloaded the AWS CLI (which requires Python) to run some tests
By the way, you were completely wrong about VSCode being written in .Net.
> That's just compiling the code to a native binary, which you would then have to go submit through Apple's store. How does that help for an IDE expected to allow you to test (i.e. execute) and debug the code you've just written ten seconds ago?
There is an existence proof that it could be done. If you ran iSH with remote VNC you could have a full IDE on a Mac.
> We can see right there some examples of what isn't allowed:
- ISH: Linux shell running on iOS/iPadOS, using usermode x86 emulation
- Lima: A nice way to run Linux VMs on Mac

Buying an iPad Pro for coding was a mistake
Not making any statement regarding the mentioned workflow issues (I mostly agree with them), I really like iSH [1] for this sort thing.
Itâs a âgood enoughâ solution for the âI just quickly need to do something in a terminalâ problems.
And because itâs an x86 Alpine Linux it can even run simple binaries if needed.
But for me it still couldnât replace a dedicated laptop for proper tasks.
