First of all I don't really know much about snaps, but after reading https://github.com/nextcloud-snap/nextcloud-snap for a bit I understood that the nextcloud installation is stored in /var/snap/nextcloud/current/ and the files are stored in /var/snap/nextcloud/common/ While you could just backup the folders, this would not solve moving, and for that I think that the easiest way would be moving from a snap installation to a php installation. I found this guide, but the main thing is that it's old, complicated and I don't think it is the best way: https://github.com/nextcloud-snap/nextcloud-snap/wiki/Migrating-from-nextcloud-snap-to-Nextcloud-server I'd do it like this: 1. Change the nextcloud snap ports into something else than 80 and 443 2. Install the mysql, apache, php and the needed php and apache modules normally. 3. Install nextcloud in this configuration 4. Copy the data and apps from snap into the webserver directory that I installed nextcloud to 5. Copy the database 6. Get a ssl certificate with certbot

Self hosting and some assembly required. I've run all of them on cheap VPSes to explore a Slack/Discord replacement, neither was mindblowing but all of them seemed okay (Nextcloud's offering was rather barebones, though).
Audio and video support varies because getting those right is challenging, at best you'd just integrate with something like Jitsi, that one's actually pretty good for meetings and such: https://jitsi.org/ and has a cloud version too: https://meet.jit.si/ (yet people still go for Zoom and it's odd UI/UX choices)
I actually rather liked forums back in the day, but I guess nobody will be setting up that many phpBB instances in the current year, though projects like Discourse also seem promising: https://www.discourse.org/
I don't think many people at all will be leaving Discord, due to how entrenched the platform is (network effect): if you want people to help you with what you're working on, you go where they are, not vice versa.

While the Hansson VM works fine and I haven't had many issues other than this, I strongly recommend to use a difference version of NC. This guy is obviously trying to scam users into paying him money for something he could easily add to his update script. Proof is here on this GitHub page, though I was unable to get it working. However that is likely a limitation of my abilities and nothing to do with being able to modify the script.
